CONTEXT
Internal communication within Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is vitally important and relates directly to the foundation of our organisation: the people – staff, managers and volunteers. Together we are the cornerstone of MSF and make it possible to pursue our main goal: giving medical care to people who need it.
At a time when MSF is relying more and more on remote teams, with decentralised hubs across the world and an increasing number of people teleworking, the challenges to keep our colleagues in Brussels and around the world connected, engaged and informed are multiple.
The Internal Communications Officer reports to the Head of Internal Communications and leads editorial strategy and delivery for internal newsletters and staff magazine, ensuring high-quality, multilingual content that informs and engages staff across headquarters and project countries —while aligning stories and updates across channels.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Editorial & Content Support
- Provide editorial support for internal channels (news updates, staff articles, ,... for newsletters, staff magazine, intranet), ensuring clarity, tone alignment, and adherence to brand standards
- Ensure content timeliness, relevance and accessibility, by managing and updating the editorial calendar and promoting content through our internal communications channels
- Ensure coherence across channels by aligning news, stories, and updates for crossposting and content promotion
- Define and uphold quality standards, tone and themes aligned with organisational priorities
- Assist with creating visual content (infographics, images) and coordinates multimedia formats (short videos, podcasts) to diversify storytelling
- Document best practices and guidelines regarding internal communication initiatives (channels, events, editorial processes,…)
- Support other members of the internal communications team during peak workloads or absences and contribute to the evolution of the internal communication strategy
- Stay informed about global trends and best practices in internal communications
Newsletters & Staff Magazine
- Lead end-to-end production for internal newsletters (eg OCB Today, MSF Pulse, Ops Update) and Staff Magazine, including editorial strategy, calendar management, commissioning, writing, editing, layout coordination, and publishing
- Coordinate contributors, set submission guidelines and ensure timely delivery
- Track newsletter and Staff budgets and evaluate impact through analytics (open rates, click-through, qualitative feedback) to refine content mix and optimize distribution strategies
- Maintain and optimize internal e-mail distribution lists; ensure targeted dissemination and encourage list hygiene
- Provide editorial support and coaching to departments and contributors (briefs, tone, accessibility)
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure quality and consistency
Translation & Multilingual Coordination
- Coordinate translations for our internal channels (primarily intranet, staff magazine and newsletters) and collaborate with volunteer translators to ensure accuracy, and timely delivery
- Support the Intranet Lead with translations into French of static pages and news updates
- Set glossary and style guidance for multilingual content
REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
- A degree in communication, marketing, or other related areas
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an editorial role
- Experience managing newsletters/magazines, distribution lists, and comfortable using data analytics to improve performance
- Experience in proactively collaborating with multiple stakeholders within an international organization
- Familiarity with SharePoint and e-mail tools, Power BI, graphic design tools, and light multimedia (videos/podcasts) workflows
- Previous MSF experience is an asset

- Writing & Storytelling: You have excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills for different channels, and the ability to translate complex or technical messages into engaging stories that resonate with internal audiences. You can also adapt content for other media types, such as infographics or videos
- Interpersonal Skills: You build relationships easily, listen actively, and collaborate effectively with contributors and stakeholders across departments and country teams
- Creative Thinking: We would love it if you were a graphic designer on top of everything else, but we especially want you to bring fresh ideas to storytelling and internal engagement, with a problem-solving mindset and openness to special formats (video, podcasts)
- Audience Understanding: You understand the different internal audiences within MSF, their needs and preferences, and tailor content accordingly
- Planning & Organization: You are able to manage multiple editorial calendars, deadlines, and contributors autonomously with precision, reliability, and attention to detail
- Result & Quality Orientation: You are committed to delivering high-quality, impactful content that drives engagement and clarity
Languages

Full proficiency in French and English, both spoken and written, is mandatory

Knowledge of Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese or Dutch is an asset
